Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a non-statutory body created under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the convenience of the students seeking admission to various National Law Universities in the country. An entrance test is conducted to provide a list of candidates on the basis of 'merit-cum-preference' to each University for admission to their Under-Graduate (UG)/ Post-Graduate (PG) programmes, as per the eligibility, reservation and other criteria laid down under the respective statutes of the participating Universities.

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), is an all India common entrance examination, conducted on rotational basis by 18 National Law Universities (NLUs) for admissions to their UG and PG degree programmes. The 18 participating NLUs in the order of their year of establishment are:

National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru.
*National Academy of Legal Study and Research (NALSAR) University of Law, Hyderabad.
*National Law Institute University (NLIU), Bhopal.
West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS), Kolkata.
National Law University (NLU), Jodhpur.
Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU), Raipur.

Under-Graduate Programme offered by the National Law Universities The eighteen NLUs offer five-year integrated Under-Graduate Law Courses leading to the award of a degree in Law as per their respective nomenclature.

Important Dates:

  • Start date of Online Application: January 1st, 2017
  • Last date for submission of fill in Online Application: March 31, 2017
  • Date of ClAT 2017 Online Examination UG & PG: May 14, 2017 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm

Eligibility Criteria for UG Programme in CLAT-2017

(i) Candidates shall be below Twenty (20) Years of age as on 1st July 2017 in case of all Unreserved/NRIs/NRI Sponsored categories candidates.
(ii) Candidates shall be below Twenty Two (22) years of age as on 1st July 2017 in case of SC/ST/ OBC/Specially Abled Persons (SAP) category candidates.
As regards minimum percentage of marks in qualifying examination (i.e., 10+2), the candidates must have secured:
(i) Forty five percent (45%) marks in case of candidates belonging to Unreserved /OBC /Specially Abled Persons (SAP) and other categories, and
(ii) Forty Percent (40%) marks in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST categories.
Candidates who are appearing in the qualifying examination in March/April 2017 are also eligible for appearing in CLAT-2017 online examination. However, they shall be required to produce an evidence of their passing the qualifying examination at the time of admission, failing which they shall lose their right to be considered for admission.
The result of qualifying examination (i.e., 10+2) shall be submitted by the candidate at the time of admission failing which the candidate shall be ineligible for admission to the Course.
In case of equal marks, the breaking of tie shall be by the following procedure and order as under:
(i) Higher marks in the section of legal aptitude in CLAT-2017 exam.
(ii) Higher age.
(iii) Computerised draw of lots.

Admission Procedure: The admission to UG and PG programme in participating universities under CLAT-2017 shall be completed through online centralised counselling conducted by CLAT Office. The basis of allotment of seats shall be 'merit-cum-preference.' That is, CLAT Rank and order of preference given by the candidate in the CLAT application form. Online counselling shall start after the declaration of CLAT-2017 results. The entire procedure shall be completed as per the CLAT calendar which is available on CLAT website.

The stepwise procedure for admission which shall be adopted by CLAT Office after declaration of result for admission is as follows:

STEP 1
Publication of first indicative list based on merit cum preference
The University-wise First Indicative List based on merit-cum-preference will be published on CLAT website.

STEP 2
Payment of counselling fee and exercising of option by provisionally selected candidates:

A specified number of candidates from various categories will be allowed to participate in the counselling process against actual number of seats available with participating NLUs.
The provisionally selected candidates must deposit the requisite counselling fee of Rs. 50,000/- with CLAT-2017 Office.
The adjustable counselling fee of Rs. 50,000/- deposited with the CLAT office will be transferred to the respective participating NLUs where the candidate has finally taken admission after the completion of the entire admission process.
The candidates failing to deposit the requisite counselling fee through the CLAT website by the specified date will lose their right to be considered for admission under CLAT-2017 and their names will be dropped from the CLAT-2017 merit list.
The candidates have to reserve their seats after paying the counselling fee by the above said procedure prescribed in counselling guidelines given on the CLAT-2017 website.
STEP 3
Publication of second list having the names of finalized candidates after payment of counselling fee and additional waitlisted candidates

The CLAT office shall publish a second list of candidates who have paid their counselling fee and reserved their seats in the participating NLUs.
A list of waitlisted candidates will also be released in the second list who are provisionally selected against dropped out candidates, if any.
The additional candidates are also required to pay the requisite counselling fee of Rs. 50,000/- and reserve their seats within the prescribed time period as per the CLAT-2017 calendar.
STEP 4
Publication of third list allotting seats to candidates

The CLAT office shall publish a comprehensive third allotment list of candidates who have paid their counselling fee and reserved their seats in the participating NLUs.
The comprehensive list shall include the names of the candidates who have paid the counselling fee against the first and second indicative lists.
A list of waitlisted candidates will also be released along with the third allotment list who are provisionally selected against the dropped out candidates
These waitlisted candidates are also required to pay the requisite counselling fee and reserve their seats within the prescribed time period as per the CLAT-2017 calendar.
STEP 5
Publication of fourth list allotting seats to candidates

The provisionally selected candidates can withdraw from the admission process within stipulated time as per the CLAT-2017 calendar. Nominal fee of Rs. 10,000/- will be deducted from the deposited counselling fee.
Any withdrawal after the stipulated period will result in forfeiture of entire amount of counselling fee.
The CLAT office shall publish a comprehensive fourth allotment list of candidates who have paid their counselling fee and reserved their seats in the participating NLUs.
The comprehensive list shall include the names of the candidates who have paid the counselling fee against the first, second and third indicative lists.
The candidates whose names appear in the fourth list and who have not deposited the counselling fee of Rs. 50,000/- are required to pay full fee to the allotted NLUs at the time of admission.
Completion of admission formalities at the allotted NLUs.

After the candidates are finally allotted seats in participating NLUs, they will be required to approach the allotted NLU with the balance amount towards the admission and other fees.
The candidates shall carry relevant certificates/documents in original issued by the competent authority in support of the various claims made by the candidates, during the scheduled periods given in CLAT-2017 calendar and complete their admission formalities. Students are advised to visit the website of concerned NLUs to see the format of specific desired documents required for admission.
The certificates in original will be checked by the respective universities at the time of their admission. (For detailed information/updates about the scheduled dates, the candidates must refer to CLAT-2017 calendar as updated from time to time).
The candidates not possessing the required certificates/documents in original or failing to meet the eligibility requirements will not be allowed to seek admission in participating NLUs.
The candidates seeking admission under various categories specially those belonging to the reserved categories such as SC/ST/OBC/SAP (Specially Abled Persons) /DFF/NRI/NRI sponsored and the unreserved category candidates seeking admission under State Domicile Category, will be required to obtain the relevant and authentic certificates/documents from the competent authorities and produce the same at the time of admission in the concerned NLU.
Those candidates who fail to report at the allotted NLU after the publication of CLAT merit list and fail to complete the admission formalities as per CLAT-2017 calendar will automatically lose their claim for admission and their entire amount of the counselling fee of Rs. 50,000/- will be forfeited.

  • For General / OBC / SAP and other category candidates: Rs. 4000/-
  • For SC/ST category candidates: Rs. 3500/- The candidates will have to bear the bank transaction charges for remitting the fee online
  • The cost of previous years question papers is Rs. 400/ (not included in the CLAT-2017 fee of Rs. 4,000/-

Mode of Payment of Application Fee
For payment of application fee, candidates are required to login to the CLAT-2017 website. Application fee shall be paid online through net-banking or debit card or credit card. The candidates will have to bear additional bank transaction charges in case they opt for remitting fee through net-banking payment gateways.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • A pass in 10+2 system of Senior Secondary examination or its equivalent with English as one of the subjects. Candidate must have passed English as a subject of study (core/elective/functional) in the qualifying examination.
  • Those appearing in 10+2 or equivalent examination can also appear in JEE 2017 on provisional basis. Provisional admission will stand cancelled if proof of having passed the qualifying examination (10+2 or its equivalent) is not submitted at the time of counselling or at the time of admission or latest by 30-09-2017.
  • The offer of admission is subject to verification of original certificates/documents at the time of counselling/admission. If any candidate is found ineligible at a later date even after admission to an Institute, his/her admission will stand cancelled.
  • Age Limit as on 01 July 2017
  • For candidates from General and OBC categories, upper age limit is 22 years as on 01.07.2017. Candidates born on or after July 01, 1995 are eligible. In the case of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates, upper age limit is 25 years as on 01.07.2017. That is SC/ST candidates born on or after July 01, 1992 are eligible. Upper age limit for Physically Challenged candidates shall be reckoned as per the category he/she belongs to i.e. General/SC/ST/OBC. Date of birth as recorded in the Secondary Education Board/Pre-University Certificate shall be the authentic proof that will be accepted. At the time of counselling, this certificate must be produced in original as a proof of age, failing which the candidate will not be considered for counselling/admission.
  • PHYSICAL FITNESS: All qualified candidates will have to submit a physical fitness certificate at the time of admission from a Registered Medical Practitioner in the prescribed format given at annexure - 1.

Eligibility Criteria
Candidates from all over the country can appear for the UGET 2017 entrance examination. The eligibility criterion for various programs has been as published by COMEDK in its Notification dated 05.12.2016 on its website www.comedk.org which is reproduced as under:-

For UG Engineering Courses

  • The qualifying examinations prescribed for admission for B.E. is second PUC or 10+2 Higher Secondary or equivalent examination recognized by State / Central Government; the last two years of study shall comprise of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with English as a compulsory subject.
  • The General Merit candidates should have passed with a minimum aggregate of 45% marks (40% in respect of SC, ST and OBC candidates of Karnataka State) in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and should have passed these subjects individually. Physics and Mathematics are compulsory subjects along with Chemistry or Bio Technology or Biology or Computer Science or Electronics as one of the optional subjects. However, changes, if any, in the eligibility criteria by the AICTE will be adopted.
  • An attempt in the COMEDK Entrance Test seeking admission to Engineering courses is considered adequate for figuring in the rank list.
  • Diploma candidates are not eligible to take the Entrance Test as there are no lateral entry admissions.

Note: The candidates shall submit the original marks card of the examination during counseling for proving their eligibility vis-a-vis marks scored as evidenced by the original marks card

For UG Architecture Courses

  • The prescribed qualifying examination for admission to B. Arch course is second PUC or 10+2 Higher Secondary or equivalent examination with Mathematics as one of the subjects along with other subjects or a 10+3 Diploma recognized by Central / State Government and having obtained at least 50% marks in aggregate (45% in the case of SC, ST and OBC candidates of Karnataka).
  • The candidates should have appeared for National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) conducted by the Council of Architecture with a minimum score of 80 out of 200 marks for both General Merit and Category students.
  • There shall be no Entrance Test for candidates seeking admission to B. Arch Course.
  • Candidates seeking B. Arch course shall submit separate application form.

Note: Notwithstanding the eligibility criteria mentioned as above, the changes, if any, effected by MCI, DCI, AICTE / VTU, COA or any other competent Regulatory Authorities shall be adopted mutatis mutandis.

Eligibility Criteria For B. Sc. Nursing:

Pattern of the Test & Duration & Syllabus:

  • The selection test will be of two hours and thirty minutes (2 ½ hrs) duration. It shall contain multiple choice questions. It will be based on senior secondary school certificate (10+2) curriculum of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and also include some items on English comprehension and General knowledge in health.

Eligibility Criteria for GNM:

  • 10+2 with English and must have obtained a minimum 40% at the qualifying examination.
  • English shall not be included for calculating the percentage.
  • List of the subjects to be considered for admission is given below.
    • Any four subjects including English (three subjects + English) from the list given below are to be considered for admission.
